This part of the city is well known for its industrial and immigrant heritage. The Mississippi River and St. Anthony Falls became a huge source of power for several industries including sawmills, textile mills and flour mills. As the industrial boom declined, the face of Northeast’s population began to change. In the early years, mainly Polish, German and Scandinavian immigrants settled in this part of the city.
